WRITING
The reason I joined The ReMarker staff is because they featured ten-year-old me in a story on my fourth grade robotics team. The influence that a 300-word article had on me is something I hope to replicate in every story that I tell. Since then, I have developed an understanding of the impact writing can have, whether it's tackling some of the biggest issues in our community or covering the little things that are happening on our own campus. From writing issue-driven stories to personality profiles to personal columns, I have developed in many ways as a writer during my four years on staff.

Keeping us safe
When sexual misconduct allegations were made against 11 former faculty members at Phillips Exeter Academy, one of those allegations included a former St. Mark's instructor. Many people in our community began questioning the safety of our students, so we dived into the situation and worked with administrators to see what the school is doing to ensure our safety.

Transcendence
Paula Ellis struggled with gender identity for 50 years. In one of the most open and moving interviews I have been a part of, Ellis shared her stories of childhood isolation, divorce and attempted suicide. Today, she is a leading activist in the transgender community whose work is affecting people across the nation. This story was featured in our Focus magazine on gender identity.

'Here i am. one of
those people.'
After almost marrying into an abusive relationship, Felicia Tribble knew she had to get out. With no help from the outside world, however, Tribble had to swallow her pride and move into a a homeless shelter. This story was featured in our Focus magazine on homelessness.

'I am not a victim.
I am a survivor.'
Verde grew up in a loving family who provided her security. Then she got married and had a son with Down Syndrome; after too many fights with her husband, Verde got divorced. Medicating herself with alcohol, she continued on a downward spiral. Realizing she needed to be there for her son, Verde got clean and is now working towards being able to thrive again. This story was featured in our Focus magazine on homelessness.

I'm Riley
Riley Cole '17 didn't exactly fit in at an all boys school. As they finished out their high school career, however, Cole finally told the world they're gender neutral. In this Focus magazine edition on gender identity, Cole discusses what it means to be gender neutral and what their experience has been like. This story was featured in our Focus magazine on gender identity.

Money's worth
In this cover story, I take a look at the state of my school's financial aid program. Talking with two alumni who attended St. Mark's on financial aid and a student who is currently benefiting from it, we take the opportunity to discuss the value of continuing to expand the financial aid program.

Standing in solidarity
When Jewish communities across the nation were attacked with bomb threats, we spoke with Jewish people at St. Mark's about their fears, concerns and issues they hope to address.

Transcending the transactional
A former St. Mark's instructor who is now the Trinity Head of School, John Allman released a revolutionary letter to the school's parents questioning their priorities and the reason behind private school education. We talked with him to take those ideas and apply them to St. Mark's.
