Photojournalism

While photography has always captured my attention, I never had the opportunity to take a formal class. But while working on The ReMarker, I have taken advantage of situations where I can go out and shoot my own photos. While I have tried to teach photography to myself, I also always reach out to The ReMarker head photographer and work with him. Through putting myself out there, I have gained experience that helps me tell visual stories. When I have the chance to combine my writing with my photography, I always see the power connecting the two can have.

Texas high school football

At AT&T Stadium, I covered the UIL 5A State Championship Football game where the Highland Park Scots beat the Shadow Creek Sharks 27-17. In order to capture the true essence of one of the biggest high school football games in the country, I wanted to shoot more than just the action on the field, whether that meant covering the crowd, the cheerleaders or even the players after a play ended.

March for our lives

On March 14, 2018, thousands of Dallas citizens gathered at City Hall and marched the streets of Downtown Dallas. In solidarity with the national March on Washington, the march was organized in support of reformed gun laws. With action happening all over the city, I made sure to move around to capture different aspects of the march.

WINN
SCIENCE CENTER

Jan. 9, my school opened a 50,000 square foot science center. By far one of the biggest happenings on campus, The Winn Science Center deserved extensive coverage by The ReMarker staff. In November, I arranged a tour for myself and two other staff members to explore the building during the late stages of its construction. Using the opportunity to take photos and research every classroom in the new building, we put together an eight-page ReMarker supplement to release to the school community before the building opened. Additionally, I covered the official opening of the building, where Headmaster David Dini and Steve Winn — lead donor to the building — spoke to the audience of students, faculty, alumni and parents.

Philmont

As an Eagle Scout, I have always been an avid backpacker and camper. During the summer of 2017, I went on a 10-day backpacking expedition in Philmont, New Mexico. In 2002, four wildfires — sparked by a thunderstorm — took over stretches of Philmont's North Country, destroying wildlife and vegetation. On my trip, I got to see firsthand the devastation caused by the wildfires. I used photography to capture both the beauty and the destruction of mother nature.

Lions Sports

Sports plays a critical role in the culture of St. Mark's. When it comes time for a rivalry night or a championship game, I'll see almost everyone I know out in the stands supporting the Lions. I have shot the varsity volleyball SPC State Championship game and basketball and soccer games during the St. Mark's-ESD rivalry.
